CORRECTION: Jason's story of the martyr who was burned at the stake was regarding Archbishop Thomas Cranmer. Jason got one detail wrong: Cranmer did not turn himself back in to be martyred. Cranmer had been sentenced to death for defying the pope's authority. He recanted his position after three years of imprisonment, pressure, betrayal, and having been stripped of his church office. He was not released from prison however, and eventually caught wind that he would be burned at the stake regardless. He had been miserable for recanting, and so when he was asked to read his recantment before his execution, he instead testified as to the truth, afterward putting his right hand into the fire first to be burned because it was with his right hand that he had written the recantment.
